Solar prices in Pakistan moved a lot in 2026. Prices dropped a lot in 2024 and 2025. Then they went up by about Rs.3,000 to 5,000 per panel in early 2026, and have crept up a little further through June and July, because silver and copper cost more to make panels. Since almost all imported solar panels sold here come from China, the Dollar rate has stayed close to Rs.278–279, so most of the recent price rise is coming from raw material costs, not currency movement. All prices below are for A-Grade, Tier-1 panels with full papers — genuine, original solar panels with manufacturer documentation — unless we say otherwise. Fake and B-grade panels are a real problem in Pakistan’s wholesale markets. Here is how to protect yourself before you pay.
How to check if a panel is original
Every genuine Tier-1 panel has a printed nameplate on the back listing the model number, rated wattage, Voc, Isc, and a serial number. The nameplate should be clean, laminated, and machine-printed — not a hand-written sticker. Ask the dealer for the manufacturer’s official warranty card, not just a shop receipt.
How to avoid fake panels
- Never buy a panel priced far below the per-watt rates in the table above — an unusually low price almost always means B-grade, refurbished, or mislabelled stock.
- Buy only from dealers who can provide a manufacturer warranty card, not just a shop-issued receipt.
- Ask to see the panel’s flash test report if buying in bulk for a commercial project.
- Avoid panels with visible micro-cracks, yellowing, or an uneven frame — signs of older or reject stock.

9. Net metering vs. net billing in Pakistan 2026 — what changed (read this before you buy)
This is the section most solar price pages in Pakistan are still getting wrong, so read carefully. In February 2026, NEPRA (Pakistan’s power regulator) officially replaced the old net metering system with a new system called net billing for all new solar applicants. If a page still quotes a Rs.19–21 per unit export rate, that page is out of date. Installers must also be registered with the Alternative Energy Development Board (AEDB) for net billing applications to be processed.
The old system: net metering (1:1 swap)
If you sent 100 units of extra power to the grid, you got a credit worth 100 units back — a straight one-for-one swap, paid at close to the retail rate (roughly Rs.22–27 per unit).
What changed: net billing (2026 onward)
- Extra power you send to the grid is now paid at a much lower rate — around Rs.8 to 11 per unit, instead of Rs.22–27.
- Power you buy from the grid is still charged at the full retail rate (Rs.40–60+ per unit, depending on your usage slab).
- The license length for new solar connections dropped from 7 years to 5 years.

The myth: “Install the biggest system you can afford, sell the extra power back, and your bill disappears.”
That advice was true under old net metering. It is not true anymore. Since net billing pays only about a third of what net metering used to pay for exported power, an oversized system now wastes money instead of earning it. A 10kW system on a house that’s empty from 9 AM to 6 PM will pay back much slower than the same system on a house that runs its AC, fridge, and water pump during the day — because most of its power gets exported at the low rate instead of saving you the full retail rate.
